My latest art immerses the viewer in an enchanted world populated by numinous landscapes and images of mythological, divine, and folkloric women. It is whimsical, thoughtful and mystical in equal measure, melding my life-long interest in mythology, art history, and legend with a love of nature and its sacred potential.
The landscape imagery comes from my personal experiences while hiking and playing in nature. It uses the thousands of photos I’ve collected over years of traveling in Texas, Colorado, Hawaii, Scotland, and many other sites all over the U.S. and world as inspiration. I start with sketches, based off these photos, my memory, and my imagination, to create paintings and collage that reflect my transcendent experience in nature.
I reinterpret ancient or arcane imagery into modern natural landscapes to create liminal space and reconsider notions of female power. These feminine archetypes and icons allow me to elucidate the sacredness of these ancient spaces, summoning ancient spirits where you might not expect to see them, and creating fantastical scenery. I hold the tenacity of nature in awe. By doing this work I pay tribute to, and channel, its sublime and transformative power.
